1. Welcome to APC

Welcome to Athletic Performance Centre (APC). We are committed to developing high-performing athletes and providing a professional, supportive environment for students completing university placements.

As a placement student, you are representing both your educational institution and APC. We expect professionalism, initiative, confidentiality, and a willingness to learn.

2. Purpose of Placement

Your placement at APC is designed to:

•        Provide practical experience in Strength & Conditioning
•        Develop coaching communication skills
•        Observe and assist in performance testing
•        Learn professional standards in a high-performance environment
•        Understand workplace operations in sport and fitness

3. Main Contacts & Communication

Your Primary Supervisors & Main Contacts are:

Declan Crook – Senior Coach

Matt Hugg – Senior Coach

Jodie Wilson - Operations

All placement communication, schedule changes, and updates must be made via the APC Placement WhatsApp Group.

You are not to make independent programming decisions, alter sessions, or communicate directly with parents/athletes regarding performance matters without approval.

4. First Day Checklist

On your first day you will:

•        Complete facility tour & induction

•        Review emergency procedures

•        Send WWC number, name & date of birth for verification to jodie@athleticperformancecentre.com.au

•        Send current First Aid Certificate jodie@athleticperformancecentre.com.au

•        Review & Discuss placement calendar

5. Professional Standards

Attendance & Punctuality

Arrive 15 minutes prior to session start. Notify the APC Placement WhatsApp Group immediately if you are unable to attend. Consistent reliability is essential.

Uniform Requirements

Placement students are required to wear:

•        University of Newcastle polo
•        Black shorts or black tights
•        Black crew socks
•        Appropriate joggers/trainers

 Parking

All staff including placement students are to park on Oakdale Rd to preserve car spaces for clients in peak morning and afternoon blocks. Outside of peak times it is ok to park in the carpark. Just make sure you park beyond our building not in Macquarie Garage Doors spaces.

Behaviour Expectations

•        No mobile phone use during sessions unless work related.
•        Respect athletes, parents, and staff at all times.
•        No social media posting about athletes or sessions (please like & share APC, Athletic Social and trainer posts when relevant).

6. Scope of Responsibilities

Placement students may:

•        Assist with session setup and pack down
•        Support warm-ups and drills under supervision
•        Assist with performance testing
•        Record session data as directed

 

Placement students may NOT: (until progressed by Senior Coach)

•        Deliver full sessions unsupervised
•        Modify athlete programs
•        Provide injury diagnosis or treatment advice
•        Communicate independently with parents about performance

7. Confidentiality Agreement

As a placement student at APC, you acknowledge that you may have access to confidential information including:

•        Athlete performance data
•        Medical and injury information
•        Personal contact details
•        Programming methodologies and internal documents
•        Financial and operational information

You agree that all athlete and client information is strictly confidential and will not be discussed outside of APC. You will not photograph, record, or share any athlete or session content without written permission. This confidentiality obligation continues after your placement concludes.

8. Workplace Health & Safety

•        Follow all coach instructions.
•        Report hazards immediately.
•        Never leave athletes unattended when in 1:1 environment.
•        Notify Jodie, Declan or Matt immediately in the event of an incident.

9. Placement Completion

At the conclusion of your placement, ensure all university paperwork is submitted to Declan or Matt at least five days prior to your deadline.
